Post subject:  Are you interested in Windows MFC VMKs?

Q1: How many people would be interested in seeing VMK's that cover Windows MFC? I use MFC to create all the Windows GUI that is visible in the Font Image Generator and File Application Viewer programs found in the Store

Note: These video's would not be free but rather would be available for purchase from the store.

Q2: What topics would you like covered in the MFC series?

Q3: How much would you be willing to pay to buy the complete MFC series?

You can put me down.

GUI's , but being a beginner I am not sure what all you could use mfc over win32 for

As for a price it would be hard to determine without knowing how much you would be getting, but I personally would be willing to pay $40 - $50 for videos on the Font Image Generator and File Application Viewer programs.

Hope this helps.

Currently I am not interested. Maybe sometime, but I don't think so.

I have been taking your tutorials and I am trying to make a cross-platform version of it, so I guess that shows my mindset, which is one reason I would not be interested.

well he could take the time and do wxWidgets videos and show how to use opengl with wxwidgets which is a cross platform API

Personally I hate MFC (No offense). A much better choice would be C# in my opinion. I am currently developing the engine with a managed front end that allows me to call the game engine from a C# .net application and draw to the C# application window.

This allows you to place controls overtop of the window like buttons, dropdown boxes etc. and use the Visual Studio designer to layout pages.

To be honest, I'm not that interested in MFC - I'd rather dive deeper into something less platform dependent like wxWidgets or even QT.

I don't really have any interest in MFC. I think you should focus your tutorial on game related stuff like you have done this far. It is way more fun to learn about! :)

I would like to have a general GUI library that allows me to make stuffs like button, label, textbox, options, checkbox, etc..
I have looked at Win32 & MFC but i find them very complicated, lets say I need a very simple unit editor that allows me to make an unit, set up it's capabilities (like: HP, armor, damage, speed, etc..) and save it.
For this you probably just need those simple controls I mentioned.
Would be very cool if it could have been written with less then 20-30 lines of code, maybe something like this:

WINDOW("Unit Editor",300,200); //title,x,y
EDITBOX("Armor",save_my_unit()); //entity,function
EDITBOX("Speed",save_my_unit()); //entity,function
BUTTON("Save",save_my_unit()); //text,function
MENU("file_exit","Exit",exit_my_app()); //menu name,text,function

I don't know if this is possible but would make me very happy :D

Nice! :D
I'll definitely have a look at this VMK.

Yesterday I finally figured how unicode works with win32 code (not MFC), it wasn't as difficult as I initially though. Please don't fell in the trap by trying to cast char* to TCHAR*, it's not going to work!
There are some small issues that are need to be handled before inserting a double into a edit control and vice versa.
If anyone are interested I'll suppose I could post it somewhere on this forum.

Now I got two alternatives to make applications with GUI, that's two more than I had a couple of days ago 8)

Thanks Marek
